![]() Detalj från Kommunhuset på Republic Square. Överallt dessa fina hus i Art Deco. Detail from the Municipal House on Republic Square. Everywhere these nice houses in Art Deco. |
Municipal House connected with another celebrity the Powder Tower, whose construction began in 1475 but was completed only in the 1870s. Black with gold is popular in Prague. |
There were many blacksmiths who showed their creations. In Sweden we have not so many, here was the profession live in the highest degree.
A blacksmith made even armours. Not many people use armour nowadays, perhaps, but a knight came and tried new equipment anyway! |
First day is about to wend so what to do in Prague. Have a beer. We ended up at Pivnice Stupartska. It became one of our regular place during the week.
Not the first and certainly not the last. With a price of around 10-15 sek for a good beer, it will be hard to stop .... |
Förstås i Art Deco. Day 2 we took a walk to Pražská Trznice (Prague market hall) on the way we passed the Hotel Opera a pink pastry. Of course in Art Deco.
Imagine that they are Bajen fans in the Czech Republic too. Saw these beautiful mini dresses in a car window. |
![]() On the other side of the Vltava (Moldau) river in Prague 7, is this house situated that looks more like a communist examples of ugly massive building. Former state planning commission, now the finance authority headquarters.
Tidigare statliga
planerings-kommissionen, nu finansmyndighetens huvudkontor. |
So we arrived at Pražská Trznice or the River Town Prague, with its more than 100 stores. Often referred to as the Chinese market, but it is most Vietnamese who have stalls here. In the middle of the 110,000-square-meter area lies the market hall. |
Most bags, clothes and knickknacks but also shops selling the very ornate glass. Can say that not a piece of glass came home.
Within the area there was a nice hardware store. At the far end was a room with only stoves. Have never seen so many and varied somewhere before. Unable as hand luggage, had otherwise taken one with us home. |
So we came to the market hall. Not the nicest we've seen but good selection of vegetables. Top score yet is Budapest. |
Cheap plants were also available. Had wanted to pick a stove full with plants and taken all home. |
Strangely, this local was completely empty. It was the prettiest in the whole area.
Moldau of Vltava, as it is called in the Czech Republic. But is not the sluice guard's cabin a bit oversized? |
Not everyone lived well in Prague. Bridges and viaducts were popular places to live in. |
The most popular place in Prague was probably in all cases, Old Town Square, the Town Hall and the Astronomical Clock. |
Klicka bilden. Prague Orlog. Masterpiece Mikulas designed together with Jan Ondrejuv clock Orloj in 1410. That was rebuilt ten years later by Master Hanus. The council did Hanus blind so that he could make an equally beautiful clock. He retaliated by destroying parts of the clock so that it never shows the correct time. See the video? Click image. |
If you turns around and gets Orloj in the back you get these houses in front. A beautiful sight it too. |
![]() ![]() Ytterligare ett exempel på Art Deco. Bara klicka för full storlek.
Another example of Art Deco. |
Living statues can be found in all European cities. The guy who raises his friend with one hand is one of the most impressive. Not quite as impressive when you see the scaffold, however. |
![]() Överallt fanns stånd med tingeltangel.... Everywhere there were stalls with knick-knacks ....
And still more knick-knacks... |
And then there were those who were looking in the garbage ... |
